The West Coast Avengers is a Marvel Comics superhero team that first appeared in The West Coast Avengers #1 (October 1984). As its name indicates the group was a branch of the Avengers that operated on the West Coast of the United States.

The group included many prominent Avengers, including Hawkeye, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, and Wonder Man. The team was first featured in a 1984 miniseries but Marvel launched an ongoing series in 1985, which lasted until 1994 (with the title changing to Avengers West Coast in 1989). When the title was canceled, within the story the Avengers voted to shut down the team, leading many of its members to leave to form the short-lived group Force Works.

Young Avengers is an American comic book published by Marvel Comics. Written by Allan Heinberg, best known for writing several episodes of the television program The O.C., it follows the events of the "Avengers Disassembled" storyline. The series follows the story of a group of young superheroes, each of whom patterns himself or herself after a member of previous Avengers. The four founding members of the team were gathered together as a result of the Vision's plan for the reformation of the Avengers in the event the team disbanded. In the series, newspapers refer to the young heroes as "super-powered fanboys" and label them the "Young Avengers," a name the team members initially disliked but which stuck nonetheless.

Avengers: The Initiative is a comic book series from Marvel Comics. Written by Dan Slott and Christos Gage with artwork by Stefano Caselli, the series deals with the aftermath of Marvel's Civil War crossover. (It should not be confused with "The Initiative", a banner running across Marvel books from February 2007 to May 2007, similar to Marvel's earlier Decimation banner after the House of M event, or the Civil War: The Initiative special by Brian Michael Bendis). A preview of the title was shown in Civil War: The Initiative.

The first issue of Avengers: The Initiative was released on 4 April 2007. The tagline initially used in solicitations was "Marvel's Army of Super Heroes just became a Super Hero Army".

The series was originally solicited as a six issue limited series, but prior to the publication of the first issue, Marvel announced that this had changed and that Avengers: The Initiative would instead be an ongoing series, becoming the third regularly published 'Avengers' title from 2007 onwards, after the New Avengers and the Mighty Avengers.

Mighty Avengers is a monthly comic book currently published by Marvel Comics, starring the superhero team The Avengers. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the writer also behind the New Avengers series, and illustrated by Frank Cho & Mark Bagley, the series depicts a group of superheroes that form a new team of Avengers. The series is set after the events of the Civil War storyline. Mighty Avengers #1 was released on March 7, 2007.

The Mighty Avengers are first seen as a team at the end of Civil War #7. While the Fifty State Initiative covers the United States, Iron Man intends for the Avengers to cover the entire world.

New Avengers was launched in November 2004, written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by David Finch. With the Avengers team disbanded, and the Fantastic Four and the X-Men unable to act, supervillain Electro shut down the S.H.I.E.L.D Raft installation, a "maximum-maximum security" prison for super-powered criminals. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Luke Cage, already at the Raft, were joined by Captain America, Spider-Man and Iron Man, as well as helped by a seemingly insane Sentry. The riot was quelled, although some forty-two inmates escaped. Captain America decided that fate had brought this group together, just as it had the original Avengers. All but Daredevil accepted the offer to reform the Avengers as a result. X-Men member Wolverine joined the team following a trip to the Savage Land.

Despite calling themselves Avengers, the officially sanctioned Avengers team, created as part of the Fifty State Initiative, is the Mighty Avengers.

Dark Avengers is an American comic book series published by Marvel Comics. It is part of a series of titles that have featured various iterations of the superhero team the Avengers. Unusually, the series stars a version of the team that, unknown to the public in its fictional universe, contains several members who are supervillains disguised as established superheroes.

The series debuted with issue #1, dated January 2009, as part of a multi-series story arc entitled "Dark Reign".[1] In the premiere, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato[2] (working from a continuity begun in a previous, company-wide story arc, "Secret Invasion", involving an infiltration of Earth by the shape-shifting alien Skrulls and that race's eventual defeat) chronicled the aftermath of the U.S. government's disbanding of the federally sanctioned superhero team, the Avengers. Bendis described the thinking behind the team: "These are bad-ass, hardcore get-it-done types. They'll close the door and take care of business and he's dressing them up to make them something that the people want".[3] This is in contrast to the changes Osborn is shown making to the Thunderbolts, where, according to writer Andy Diggle, he turns that team into "something much more covert and much more lethal: his own personal hit squad".

Solo Avengers, later Avengers Spotlight, was an American comic book, published by Marvel Comics.

A spin-off from the company's popular team title Avengers, it began life in December 1987 under the title Solo Avengers. It changed title to Avengers Spotlight in August 1989, with issue 21. It was cancelled in January 1991 with issue 40.

The format of the title was usually two stories, one featuring the character Hawkeye (a sarcastic archer who had been first introduced to the Avengers title in 1964) and a back-up strip showcasing current or former Avengers who didn't have their own title. Some issues featured one long story, and others dropped Hawkeye altogether.

With issue 35, the comic changed format to exclusively focus on one full-length story (apart from issue 36, which carried a Hawkeye story intended for #35 but not completed in time), in a failed attempt to avoid cancellation.

Solo Avengers was part of a then-current trend at Marvel to expand its various "franchises" such as Spider-Man and the X-Men into as many as a dozen titles, and the name change to Avengers Spotlight (together with the concurrent renaming of West Coast Avengers to Avengers West Coast), with a logo based heavily on that of the parent title was an attempt to force retailers, who usually sorted their comics in alphabetical order, to rack them beside the parent title in an attempt to increase sales.
